Genuine Authenticity. It’s rare to find in another. It’s hard to stay the course via other’s judgements. It’s awkward and difficult when you first begin. It’s also the answer to everything you’re struggling with.
It’s impossible to be authentic without simultaneously being open to the fact that you might discover something tomorrow – that changes You.
Too often people believe that radically authenticity means saying a big F*u to those around us and simply doing what we please. This couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Genuine Authenticity requires reflecting on and understanding:
- YOUR values – not the ones your family or society taught to you
- Objectively viewing your situation from multiple perspectives
- Accepting the obligations we have chosen to begin or engage in until we are able to complete what we agreed to do.
- Remain vulnerable and open to new perspectives and information
Being Yourself Requires Vulnerability
Admitting that you may have been leading your life in a way that does not feel authentic to you can be incredibly difficult. We strive to make our families, spouses, colleagues and friends happy through our actions and choices and we dread the harsh judgement of others. Surrounding yourself with people who believe in, and support, the authentic you – your goals, values, and choices – takes time when it hasn’t been the case in the past. But it’s well worth every moment!
